A “Sense” of Humor

Many of us have been programed to respond to sarcasm, the 10th time around joke, the comment of a friend, or a not very funny sitcom with a laugh. A true laugh comes from an internal “sense” of humor. It is something that touches our soul and results in a spout of laughter or maybe just a deep inner smile. Those with children or pets in their life know this smile. Those that take time to feel gratitude or experience the beauty of nature are familiar with the inner smile. It begins in the heart and radiates out into the energy field. This laughter and/or inner smile is healing on all levels. It brings us back to center and that which is truly important in life.

We all have moments that tickle our humor cord.  Besides my very comedic children and pets, I can’t help but love comedy that is ridiculous or depicts embarrassing moments in life. My sense of humor is struck when someone laughs at themselves or thinks they are very funny. Laughter is contagious!

As we begin to become aware of our spiritual growth it is important to not only develop self forgiveness, but also a “sense” of humor. We must begin to see each experience as a learning tool. We are human and may not always make the perfect choices in response to that which we create in life. We sometimes fall into our ego of victimhood, vanity, judgment or needing to control. Our ability to recognize, forgive and laugh at our silly mistakes helps us avoid the attachment of judgment. When we attach to the effect of an experience, it creates a repetitive cycle of karma, allowing us the opportunity to step up and choose differently.

This month we have been planting seeds of individual and global freedom. A “sense” of humor is imperative on our journey to spiritual freedom. And just for the books, if you are not already aware, Jesus has a wonderful sense of humor as do many of our wise teachers.

This week, lets focus on our true “sense” of humor and what ignites it. Recognize the programmed humor. Feel the difference. What tickles your senses? Breathe it in and feel the healing energy. Allow yourself to let go and forgive choices of the past. This is freedom of spirit.
